What types of projects are the best fit for Allston Contractors?
We’re a good fit if you’re planning a major project: full-home remodel, large addition / second story, or custom home build. Most of our projects range from $150,000 to $750,000+ and involve multiple rooms, structural changes, and a full design–build approach. How long does a project like this usually take?
Rough guidelines:
Large kitchen + main floor: 4–6 months from design through completion
Major additions / second story: 6–9 months
Full-home renovations or custom builds: 9–15+ months
Your exact timeline depends on design decisions, permitting, and site conditions. On your planning call, we’ll walk through a realistic timeline for your home, not a generic promise.
Can we live in the home during construction?
Sometimes. For lighter-scope projects, you can often stay with some temporary inconvenience (dust, blocked areas, etc.). For full-home renovations or major structural work, many clients choose to move out for part or all of the build. We’ll be honest with you on the call about whether staying in place is realistic or will just make everyone miserable.
Do you handle permits, inspections, and approvals?
Yes. For full-home remodels, additions, and custom builds, we manage the entire process: plans, permits, coordination with engineers and inspectors, and scheduling inspections. You get one point of contact instead of juggling a small army of vendors and departments.
How does pricing work? Is it fixed or will there be surprise costs?
We start with a detailed design and planning phase to define scope, selections, and structural details. From there, we provide a fixed-price construction contract for that scope. The only changes to price come from client-driven changes (you choose different finishes, add rooms, etc.) or truly unforeseen site conditions, which we discuss and approve with you before any work is done.
We’ve had a bad experience with a contractor before. How is this different?
Most horror stories come from vague scopes, weak project management, and “we’ll figure it out as we go.” We use:
- A clear written scope and selections before construction
- A dedicated project lead for your job
- Milestone-based payment schedules tied to progress
- Weekly updates so you always know what’s happening next
